Adrenalin Recording Studios Under threat
- Adrenalin are being forced out of their building by Hallam University at the Porter Brook site in the Cultural Industries Quarter (CIQ).
- The University want to demolish the building and sell off the land to the highest bidder.
- Adrenalin's purchase offer to the Council for the building was apparently higher than Hallam's, but guess who got it !
- Hallam are no longer locating the Psalter Lane Art College at Porter Brook, this was the Council's excuse for selling to Hallam.
- The Council never put the building out to tender. So it was an illegal sale.
- Adrenalin have not only put an enormous amount of money into the construction of the studios but have also invested heavily in the future development plans of the whole building.
- Hallam have been putting pressure on, and harassing other companies for years relating to this site, and other sites. (We will also be discussing those).
- Hallam are not offering any compensation whatsoever, to any companies who have been affected, quite the reverse!
- Adrenalin have been in business in the building for fifteen years, eight of those have been affected by Hallam.
- The area is now protected and this should stop certain demolition, but we know this will not stop Hallam!
- Some of dealings which are taking place in the CIQ / Sheffield are appalling and quite hard to believe. Some of the people who are aware of these situations, facts, are afraid to come forward.
Please read on for further details
Adrenalin are being forced out of their building by Hallam University. The recording studios took two years to build (shown above) and will become a pile of bricks if Hallam get their way. Hallam are wanting to demolish the building (which stands in an extensive plot of land, presently a large a car park) The building apparently spoils the symmetry of the whole plot, and would be more attractive to the highest bidder, if it was demolished. (odd ! I'm sure we have a document saying Hallam were building the Psalter lane Art college on the site ! According to the council that was the only reason they sold it to them )
Adrenalin have been in business for fifteen years in the building. When the council offered it for sale some years ago, Adrenalin immediately put in an offer to buy it to ensure their future. They then embarked on a six month plan with architects / designers / artist and engineers to bring the building back to its original condition.
Plans were meticulously drawn up, to artistically craft together the old with the new, in order to give the building a look which fitted into the ethos of the CIQ area, the planning in itself was an enormous undertaking.
So it came as one hell of a shock when Hallam swooped in and bought the building from under them, and led to even more amazement when the head of the CIQ (council), at the time, had no idea that the building had been sold!
Adrenalin's offer for the building to the council was apparently higher than Hallam's, but this made no difference who received it. The council never put the building out to tender (which is a legal stipulation). At the time of the government investigation into the council concerning the sale, their excuse for selling to Hallam, was that "Hallam had a bigger agenda than Adrenalin Studios". Understandable, possibly, but surely it would have been helpful to let Adrenalin know.
This bigger agenda, which was also the stipulation. Concerned moving Hallam's Psalter Lane Art College down to this site. In all fairness it is an understandable large agenda, and Adrenalin offered to move out if this was the case. BUT NOW, years on, and this bigger agenda has not been adhered too. Further more Hallam are now SELLING the whole plot to the highest bidder, mmmmm - that smells a little unfair to say the least.
Why have Hallam being allowed to keep it? And sell it on for a large profit, and in the process be allowed to shaft so many companies. Hallam's big agenda is no longer a met promise, Typical!
Hallam have been putting pressure on other companies for years relating to this site, and are still determined to get their way. Adrenalin are adamant they will not be moving from their premises until Hallam have shown publicly, and in writing, that the land will be sold to companies who will be involved in the further expansion and future of the CIQ. Plus compensation must be payed to all the companies who are being affected.
At the time of the government investigation, the council offered a rescue package to Adrenalin to ensure their safety and expressed the necessity for this type of business in the CIQ (and of course the package was also offered to halt the investigation). But a couple of years later when this package was called on by Adrenalin, the council said the meeting never existed and was never minuted.
Sadly most people in the city are unaware of the sort of dealings that go on behind closed doors. They are only allowed see the good side, which is heavily publicised by PR experts. But, the financial stability of the CIQ is being affected by many things which should not be taking place, this website is only showing the tip of the ice burg at the moment. Some of dealings which are taking place in and around the CIQ are frightening, incredibly serious and quite hard to believe and we are not scaremongering. Some people who are aware of these situations / facts, are afraid to come forward, because of the possible repercussions. So, strength in numbers to allow that freedom of voice to come forward is imperative.
The expansion of the CIQ is imperative and can only expand in the Porter Brook direction. Hallam own all the other directions. It is a fact that if more inner city living, a supermarket or petrol station is built on this plot, it will damage and halt this expansion. The natural expansion and flow has already been strangled for many years by Hallam. Companies and individuals have been grossly held back, facing constant uncertainty. Hallams arrogant belief that all should work around them, never communicating to enable businesses to progress and grow. Most of all we are sick and tired of the sneaky underhanded methods Hallam use to acquire any property, at any cost and it is now wiping people into such a rage!.
They have owned, and still own, a lot of the buildings in the CIQ and they will not let people rent them, they never have done and there is a distinct lack of premises for businesses. Their buildings run into complete disrepair. They look so run down and spoil the image of what we are trying to portray and build on. Graduates have no cheap places to work, yet Hallam have all these buildings going to waist. Why are we letting it happen! The CIQ will become the SHQ if something isn't done now !!!!! Artists/creators/musicians/filmmakers are being forced out. COME ON! this was prophesied in the Edaw report years ago. WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH - NO MORE HALLAM MONOPOLY - DISREGARD - IMMORAL DEALINGS - WASTING DYING BUILDINGS - ARROGANCE - PROFITEERING - HOLDING BACK THE PROCESS. IT'S FINISHED!
